About Island of Mljet
The Island of Mljet is situated a couple of hours by boat sail from Dubrovnik. It is a green and tranquil island of the Adriatic Coast for which a lot of people who visited it find it very seductive. Part of the Island of Mljet is also Croatian National Park.
Mljet is one of the most beautiful of the Croatian Islands. This unspoiled island is covered by a dense Mediterranean forest and crisscrossed with a maze of paths that are ideal for tranquil walking.
The sea around the island is deep with an abundance of fish. At the northwest end of the island, there are two connected lakes with clear blue-green water good for swimming.
Also perfect for bathers is a sandy beach at the furthest eastern point of the island, in Saplunara, considered to be the finest in Croatia.
On the small island in the Veliko Jezero Lake, there is an old Benedictine monastery.
The best-preserved western part of the island has been designated a national park. It is believed that Mljet is the island of Melita on which Saint Paul and his companions were shipwrecked on their way to Rome.
There are regular local excursions to Mljet from Dubrovnik and Korcula.
